i've been using homemade dishwasher detergent since before the homemade laundry detergent.
{mainly because i ran out of it first.}
it works great!
i use the liquid detergent, but i'll give you the powder recipe too.
you're gonna flip out when you find out how easy this is!
grab a pen and a piece of paper. ok, ready?
if you made the homemade laundry detergent, then you already have the ingredients for this!
Powder Dishwasher Detergent
mix together:
1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda OR Baking Soda
1 cup Borax
store in plastic container. use about 2 Tbsp per load.
Liquid Dishwasher Detergent:
1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup Borax
1 cup water
1 drop lemon or orange essential oil per cup of detergent
mix thoroughly. {you'll need to mix it each time before you use it. ~it's a small price to pay considering how much money you save!} use 2-3 Tbsp per load.
fill the rinse compartment with vinegar and 2-3 drops of essential oil and you'll have sparkling clean dishes :)
i haven't figured the cost/savings, but if you do, leave a comment and let us know!
what made you choose liquid over powder?
ReplyDeleteI am excited to make this when I run out of what I have :)
i chose liquid because that's what i was buying and i preferred it. i've never tried powder though- even store bought.
ReplyDeletewhere do you buy the essential oils? i'm so excited to try this!
ReplyDeleteyou can buy essential oils at health food stores- i bought lemon essential oil here in my little bitty town!
ReplyDeleteI have heard that liquid is better for the aquifer. Some states have banned the use of powder. Way to be environmentally sound! What a fun idea! Great job!
